How do Travel, Adventure and Good Pay sound to you? Can you handle a bow, a spear, perhaps a sword? Join a team of men and women to forever alter history--for better or worse. Come on! What's the worst that can happen? Sickness, death by misadventure, some mistake that drops you in the middle of nowhere, instant oblivion? Sure, but look on the bright side. Well... No, I can't actually describe the bright side--our project is confidential. But you do like adventure, don't you? And how's your attitude toward a bit of looting and pillaging?

THE UNNAMABLE

We were sitting on a dilapidated seventeenth-century tomb in the late afternoon of an autumn day at the old burying ground in Arkham, and speculating about the unnamable. Looking toward the giant willow in the cemetery, whose trunk had nearly engulfed an ancient, illegible slab, I had made a fantastic remark about the spectral and unmentionable nourishment which the colossal roots must be sucking from that hoary, charnel earth; when my friend chided me for such nonsense and told me that since no interments had occurred there for over a century, nothing could possibly exist to nourish the tree in other than an ordinary manner. Besides, he added, my constant talk about "unnamable" and "unmentionable" things was a very puerile device, quite in keeping with my lowly standing as an author. I was too fond of ending my stories with sights or sounds which paralyzed my heroes' faculties and left them without courage, words, or associations to tell what they had experienced. We know things, he said, only through our five senses or our intuitions; wherefore it is quite impossible to refer to any object or spectacle which cannot be clearly depicted by the solid definitions of fact or the correct doctrines of theology—

Mathias Sandorf

Jules Gabriel Verne (February 8, 1828–March 24, 1905) was a French author who pioneered the science-fiction genre. He is best known for novels such as Journey To The Center Of The Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (1870), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873). Verne wrote about space, air, and underwater travel before air travel and practical submarines were invented, and before practical means of space travel had been devised. He is the third most translated author in the world, according to Index Translationum. Some of his books have been made into films. Verne, along with Hugo Gernsback and H. G. Wells, is often popularly referred to as the "Father of Science Fiction"

UNDER THE PYRAMIDS

Mystery attracts mystery. Ever since the wide appearance of my name as a performer of unexplained feats, I have encountered strange narratives and events which my calling has led people to link with my interests and activities. Some of these have been trivial and irrelevant, some deeply dramatic and absorbing, some productive of weird and perilous experiences and some involving me in extensive scientific and historical research. Many of these matters I have told and shall continue to tell very freely; but there is one of which I speak with great reluctance, and which I am now relating only after a session of grilling persuasion from the publishers of this magazine, who had heard vague rumors of it from other members of my family.

The Rings of Poseidon

A team of archaeologists, led by Afro-Caribbean Alycia Graham is a Stone Age site in the Orkney Islands north of Scotland when they uncover a remarkably preserved copper ring ... a ring which seems to have the power to give the wearer a glimpse of the past ... but is their own past or that of the Ring? Why are all the team somehow connected with the ring? What is a metal ring doing so far back in the Stone Age, and who is seeking the ring over millenia?
